How do European countries notice if I'm spending more than 6 months in a country as not resident (for taxes purposes)?
However all countries have in common that they will throw the book (all of them) at you if you are caught evading taxes...

@anoeuryzm: As a European you still need to register with authorities is you take up residence somewhere. And you need to deregister in the place you left. Otherwise the fact that you are not registered at your primary residence my indeed catch up with you.

If the police suspect that you are not really a resident where you claim to be they may actually come and check. And if they determine that you are abusing the system they will simply cancel your permit.

Can I apply for residency in another EU country with a recently cancelled Latvian permit?
Out of curiosity: What makes you believe you will pay less tax in Portugal?

German living in Switzerland working remotely for German company
Have you contacted the Einwohnerkontrolle in Zürich yet? It may be possible to live in Switzerland and work in Germany, provided your income is high enough. And you will of course have to pay taxes and social security etc. in Switzerland. And your German employer may have to cooperate as well.

@Bobby you are telling me you are ok with catching a deadly disease, but not with getting an injection?

@Bobby: You will not be able to avoid immunisation. If you do not get the vaccine you will eventually get Covid-19, and if you survive that you will be immunised.

French Long stay Visa for girlfriend
Yes. Just register your marriage earlier. You can keep the ceremony on the date you originally planned it.

I'm moving to Germany but want to keep my UK job. Any advice?
You will need to find a way to be in compliance with all the relevant tax and social security regulations as a German resident. In practice the best way to solve this is for you to be hired by a German entity. Either a subsidiary of your employer, or an agency that then just bills your employer.

How to know ahead of time the price of a call via Google Voice from the US to France for a `+338` number?
I would assume that not mentioning the rate when you publish the number, or not at the start of the call foul of cunsumer protection laws in France. It does so in many countries.

What options exist to take care of minor children when out of boarding schools?
Do the boarding schools really assume legal guardianship? ( I went to boarding school, and this one certainly didn't). If the problem is that someone needs to "look after" your child, well, if they are almost 18 they ought to be able to look after themselves. Give them a backpack and some pocket money and tell them to have some fun in Europe before college starts.

I would guess this to be 0.01 (the base cost of a call to a landline) plus whatever the merchant operating the line asks. This is normally mentioned wherever the number is advertised. See the examples on the wikipedia page.

Germany Visa Rejection
You may have to accept that you have no options here. The embassy probably does not believe your request is legit. Getting a driving licence in Germany costs quite a bit of money, especially if the job requires you to get a truck driver's licence. This could easily be several 1000s of Euro. And for a truck driving licence you would need to pass a medical test as well. But having a licence is not enough. That does not make you a professional driver. You need other training as well. And how is your German?

Germany vs Switzerland immigration
What is your nationality? What. kind of job are you looking for. Only knowing English is often fine if you work in IT, but many other companies will expect you to speak the local language.

Can I reside in Germany, in case I work for a Belgian company?
@neross: But where are you working? I work for a US company. I live in Switzerland. Most of my work involves either travelling to customers (mostly in Germany) or working for those customers remotely. I actually work very little in Switzerland itself. But legally, my place of work is home, my employer is the Swiss Subsidiary of the US company, and I pay Swiss Taxes, social security etc...
